Retroviral integration is a critical step in the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) life cycle, enabling viral genetic material to become permanently incorporated into the host genome. This process is mediated by the intasome, a large and structurally complex nucleoprotein assembly whose size, flexibility, and heterogeneity have made it difficult to characterize using conventional analytical methods.
