New Orleans is a city that just encourages one to write on and on about what to visit there.

Or eat.

Or say.

We have coverage of the 2011 conference of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) in our May issue of ddn, but frankly, it wasn't enough, and we wanted to offer some added value. So, here on the website is not only coverage that includes those stories from the print issue but more besides (and we still had to stop to keep from going overboard).

By the way, even if you aren't going to asm2011, you'll want to read all this to find out why you need to visit the city (or revisit it).

Coverage areas

(an overview of the asm2011 meeting itself, and news related to ASM and the conference)

(how to pronounce the words and understand the terms you will encounter)

(a roundup of famous foods and eateries you may wish to explore)

(places to visit and things to do that mostly don't involve eating)

(some off-the-beaten-track things to do and fun facts about New Orleans and Louisiana)

(Additional photos of the city and the places in and around it)
