Glycans, including simple and complex carbohydrates, coat every cell in the body. Despite being everywhere, they are one of the least explored biomolecule classes. Recent research has revealed their critical roles in many biological and disease processes, such as tumors using sialoglycans to cover themselves to evade immune surveillance and pathogens latching onto glycans on respiratory cells to initiate infection. In this webinar, Lara Mahal will discuss her recent discoveries in glycoscience and their implications for understanding immune evasion, infection recovery, and the development of novel therapeutic strategies.
Topics to be covered
- The role of sialylation in cancer and metastasis
- How glycans affect infection and recovery
- The role of glycosylation in host responses to pathogens
