SRU Biosystems recently announced the extension of itsproduct line of label-free instrumentation and biosensors with the introductionof its BIND Scanner, a plate-based, label-free instrument capable of monitoringcellular responses at an individual cell resolution. The BIND Scanner has acompact design that allows it to be placed in a cell incubator to run assays at37 degrees C and high humidity. Using new, modified microplate-based photoniccrystal biosensors, it can locate and track individual live cells withuser-controlled resolution (variable from 2 mm to 3.75 microns). It continuouslymonitors cell adhesion and morphological changes in real-time, allowing assaysto be run using small populations of cells, or even single cells. BINDbiosensor microplates are compatible with standard fixation and stainingtechniques, including fluorescence applications, allowing orthogonalinformation to be gathered by the user. The BIND system supports the use of 8-,16-, 96-, 384-, and 1,536-well microplates using the company's opticalbiosensor technology.
