September 2009
SHARING OPTIONS:

BELFASTóAlmac Diagnostics, a personalized medicine company focused on genomic-based solutions, has partnered with breast cancer researchers at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UM) to win a U.S. Department of Defense Synergistic Idea Award, one of 12 such grants awarded in the United States. The $725,000 research grant over two years will allow the researchers to examine the genetic differences found in African-American breast cancer patients using Almac's Cancer DSA, the first high-density microarray to focus on the transcriptome of a particular disease. The tool has been designed to enable profiling from both frozen and FFPE tissue which allows application of this unique microarray technology to current clinical practice and retrospective tissue banks.
